Condensation
High levels of humidity, ventilation, and poor air flow are the first things we look at when dealing with condensation. Condensation forms when humidity levels are especially high. Moisture settles on surface areas that are much colder than the ambient temperature, such as exterior uninsulated walls.
This is escalated further when there is no airflow to move the moisture around the room. If left untreated, this can cause severe damage to walls, furnishings, and clothing. Furthermore, this can affect our health. Moisture will eventually progress onto all walls and surfaces, forming mold spores that progress into black mold, which then become airborne and spread quickly, leading to respiratory conditions for those in occupancy.
Rising damp
Capillary action enables moisture to climb up within the walls to a height of 1.2 meters, evaporating and leaving unsightly salts on the surface, which are also detrimental to health. The main causes of this are when no damp-proof course has been installed, bridging when external ground levels (such as driveways, paths, pavements, etc.) have been raised over a period of years, incorrect installation of a damp-proof course, or suffocating the building due to repointing.
It's important to remember that rising damp can't be cured, but it can be controlled by our trained specialists, leaving a showroom-finished, healthy home. The best remedy will be discussed during inspection.
Penetrating damp
